Spider PhotoCalling all young budding young scientists, Te Papa’s DeCLASSIFIED Sun 1 Mar 2015 is an event where you can talk to other scientists and discover more about the natural world and New Zealand’s flora and fauna.

So why not find out what that spider is? Or the one you found in your garden? Or climbing up your wall? Or onto your bed? Because as Lilly and Squidge will tell you, it’s important to know exactly what spider you are working with. Is it poisonous? Is it dangerous? is it going to be a good candidate for creating a Dreadbeast type spider hybrid?

Also, if you have a good picture of a spider, and you can’t make it to Te Papa (although the only good excuse I can see is that you live half way around the world and can’t catch a flight in time) you might want to send it in to Lilly at http://askmisslionheart.tumblr.com/, and if she can’t identify your spider, there’s a good chance she can blackmail Phil Sirvid into identifying it for her.

Happy hunting,

A.J.Ponder
